Inspired by the Spencerian Ladies' Hand script by American calligrapher and teacher of penmanship Charles Paxton Zaner, Zaner began as a typeface revival capturing its steep angle and characteristics of each letterform, but later grew into something more. Despite the intended everyday use of Spencerian script, Zaner is intended for as a display typeface for headlines and text set in large type sizes. The large loop ascenders and descenders, steep angle, and smooth entrance and exit strokes produces striking and dynamic layouts.
